Solar panels work based on the photoelectric effect of semiconductors. When sunlight shines on the semiconductor material on the panel, photons excite the electrons in the semiconductor, causing them to jump from the valence band to the conduction band, thereby generating electron-hole pairs. These electrons and holes move to the two poles respectively under the action of the electric field inside the semiconductor, forming an electric current, thereby realizing the conversion of solar energy into electrical energy.

Off-grid solar panels are one of the core components in off-grid solar power generation systems. Their function is to convert solar energy into DC electricity.

Theory

Monocrystalline silicon solar panels: The photoelectric conversion efficiency is relatively high, generally between 15%-24%, which means that under the same lighting conditions, it can generate more electricity. However, the manufacturing cost of monocrystalline silicon panels is relatively high, but its high conversion efficiency makes it have better economic benefits in long-term use. Monocrystalline silicon panels have a long service life and stable performance, which are suitable for scenarios with high demand for electricity and pursuit of long-term stable power supply.
Polycrystalline silicon solar panels: The photoelectric conversion efficiency is slightly lower than that of monocrystalline silicon, generally around 12%-18%. Its production process is relatively simple and the cost is low, so it has a high cost performance. Polycrystalline silicon panels may have some grain boundaries and textures in appearance, but this does not affect its normal power generation function. It is suitable for off-grid power generation systems that are cost-sensitive and do not have particularly high requirements for power output.

Amorphous silicon solar panels:

They are more adaptable to weak light conditions and can still generate a certain amount of electricity in cloudy days, early mornings, evenings and other weak light conditions. Amorphous silicon panels have low manufacturing costs, are light, and are bendable, making them easy to install on the surfaces of objects of special shapes. However, their photoelectric conversion efficiency is relatively low, generally between 5% and 10%, and their performance decays relatively quickly after long-term use.
